| Welcome to NISWASS ! |
The National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences (NISWASS) was born in the Year 1971.
NISWASS is an evolution in itself and has brought a sea change in all aspects of its operations from communication to research; from projection to implementation. NISWASS operates its own communication branch that strengthens understanding and improves goodwill between service providers and target population. It will be seen thus far that each Department has a need-based, step-by-step evolution. Measured growth and steady progress have made NISWASS a Trust in itself.
NISWASS has decided to empower the Scheduled Caste and the Tribes and the other deprived sections, including the Other Backward Classes, whom we call the Developing Communities or the people of the Fourth World. The ultimate goal of NISWASS is to struggle for the rights which these deprived people deserve.
NISWASS focuses on dealing with complex social problems and their solutions.It is wholly dedicated to create the complete professionals who really help the deprived and downtrodden developing both intellectually and economically. |

| Vision and Mission |
NISWASS has a vision and a mission of empowering exclusively the Tribes, Dalits, OBCs, Minorities and other oppressed sections in order to build an humane and egalitarian society. It has a well-defined strategy, selected programmes and a large posse of activities. The broad framework of it's activities comprise research, teaching, action, advocacy and alliances. The ultimate goal is to raise conscious citizens and social entrepreneurs from within an oppressed society. |

The Emancipation of the socially and economically weaker classes has been one of the objectives of the Indian Constitution as stated in the Directive Principle of State Policy. The five year National development plans also have sought to promote the development of these section of the people by extending them access to economic improvement and social justice.
Efforts by the State alone , however , will not bring about changes in the socio economic order . The voluntry agencies have a major role to supplement the efforts of the Government in translating the policies , plans and programmes meant for these people into action and to achieve the national aim of development with justice.
It is this context and concern that Niswass : National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences , an autonomous, non profit making , non political and non governmental organisation , was founded in 1971 in bhubaneswar with its branches in Phulbani and sundergarh, The Institute has the entire Country as its area of operation.
