Eligibility Criteria for m.a In rural Management
i) Any graduate from a recognised University can apply. Reservation of seats will be made for SC/ST and physically challenged candidates as per rules. Those who are in the final year and expect to compete all the requirements of graduation by the beginning of the selection process in the present course can also apply.
ii) Academic record, performance in personal interviews, nature of social service or practical field experience shall form the basis for selection of candidates for admission to the course.
iii) The Institute would welcome employees of NGOs, engaged in rural development and those associated with Gandhian Institutions, as sponsored candidates who should hold a Graduate Degree in any stream-Science, Arts, Commerce, Management. |
Department of women's Empowerment
Women's Empowerment is a rigorous interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and transnational discipline rooted in feminism and shaped by the social sciences, humanities and natural sciences, as well as movements for social justice. It places women's lives at the core of its significance, examining the experience of women through the lens of gender, and attending to ways gender intersects with other social categories such as race, class, nationality/ethnicity and sexuality.
Participatory Teaching and Training
In order to provide leadership in the realm of new knowledge on women-specific issues, the Department has now worked out its curricula on innovative teaching and training programmes, moving from short-term to long term and from theoretical orientation to working experiences. It has been stressed time and again that studying women's issues provides one of the richest territories for challenging existing theories in all disciplines, ranging from epistemology to theology, science and technology, humanities, social sciences and human behaviour. Thus in order to be an acknowledged agency in the area of gender and women-related issues, the Department offers three typs of Course
Department offers three types of courses
- A basic foundation course on Gender and Development;
- Inclusion of some papers on Gender and Development in the Social Work curricula at the graduate and post-graduate levels;
- Specialized courses in Women's Studies at Post Graduate level: PG Diploma in Gender Studies and Master in Women Studies.
The teaching brings the student community in vital contact with the women's issues and therefore, their active participation in this learning process has considerable impact. Its short-term programmes include orientation and refresher courses, summer institutes and skill development, wherein, there will be involvement of the student community, especially women, in raising gender consciousness and developing feminist identity.

Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender Studies
The Institute has launched a Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender Studies in the year 2004-2005.The pattern of the course is special in nature, and provides for adequate exposure to various theories and field techniques of mainstreaming gender concerns in social change.
Certificate Courses
The Gender Studies and Empowerment Division had undertaken a number of training programmes for Governmental and Non-Governmental organisations. It has a well qualified team of trainers who provide their inputs as and when required. The training programmes organised by the Division are: DWCRA Functionaries,Training in Printing Technology; Training of Creche Workers; Training of Family Counsellors; Training of Office bearers of NGOs running FCCs; Reorientation Training of Family Counsellors.
