rural management and gandhian studies


Praxis RESEARCh and studies


The Department through the Division of Rural Arts and Crafts including handicrafts and tribal crafts focused its research studies on their production, raw-material, employment opportunities, skills development, capital and marketing management relating to the development of arts and crafts in the region. The Study of Handicrafts Cooperatives in Orissa involved a detailed survey of the Handicrafts Co-operatives

social ACTION and Extension (SIAD)

The Institute since 1980 is engaged in Action Programmes of different kinds. SIAD was a participatory programme and the ingredients of both research and action had the component of participation. NISWASS was fully involved along with its Village level workers, called Village Coordinators and Panchayat Coordinators, all of whom hailed from the local area, were the participants of the programme.

ADVOCACY and campaigns


As a measure of capacity building developmental programmes, NISWASS plays its of developing people in the discharge of their role in rural advocacy . NISWASS was engaged in various tangible activities in this regard:

  1. Preparation of Block Plans
  2. Evaluation of Rural Development programme

           
alliances and NETWORKING

The task of liberating the Fourth World is immense. NISWASS through the Department has a wide membership consisting of academics, administrators and development practitioners as well as different institutions and agencies established at grassroots levels.

Centre for Gandhian Studies

The main emphasis of the Centre for Gandhian Studies established in NISWASS with assistance from the UGC is:

  1. To develop course curricula in Gandhian Studies at Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, M.Phil and Doctoral levels
  2. To test and build new paradigms in Gandhian Studies drawn from the Institute’s own indigenous experience
  3. To develop strategies for participatory research and action
  4. To help making of social policies in the country and those in Orissa in particular and
  5. To help building training programmes for guiding social action at the grassroots.

The Studies Division also includes Refresher's Courses for lecturers/senior lecturers of Universities and Colleges to promote interests and skills based on Gandhian values and ethics.
