rural management and gandhian studies

The Department of Rural Management and Gandhian Studies is intended to focus on rural India in terms of its socio-economic and political systems and the perceptions, beliefs and cultural ethos of rural populace, management of natural resources comprising of land, water and forest, agriculture and farm production management involving input management as well as finance management, rural market management, capital and project management. It also seeks to create an advance channel for the establishment of a powerful and effective peace education and to advance its various aspects including respect for cross-cultural thoughts, conflict resolution through non-violent means and concern for human rights and global environment.

TEACHING and TRAININGRural Animators

NISWASS conducted training course for Rural Animators for the NGOs. The course covered societal analysis, social justice, organisational and motivational techniques, rural communication, leadership development, entrepreneurship building and comprehensive rural management.

Social Animators

NISWASS trained Social Animators of different NGOs from the state of Orissa The young Animators from NGOs were brought to the Department and provided training .The subjects covered during this period were societal analysis, methods of working with the people, rural sociology, communication and conscientisation, legal aid for the poor, labour laws in relation to the rural poor, rural development programme, leadership behaviour and leadership development etc.

Training of Trainers

A programme for the training of trainers for the Orissa based Non Government Organisations was conducted by NISWASS. These candidates once back in their organisations, were to be responsible for conducting Social Animators Training for the Youth of their respective areas.

Programme for Self-employment and Entrepreneurship Development in a nutshell, covered training of the potential self-employed persons with principles and methods of social work, in order to raise a cadre equipped to carry out social service functions on a part time, or voluntary basis at the village level.
Non-Formal Education Programme was implemented in 100 villages of Phulbani district. About 13000 children received non-formal education each year. Classes were conducted in the evenings, between 18 and 21 hours, when children had spare time. The course syllabi of educational programmes had been based on the lines prepared by the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT).

Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management

The methodology of this course veer around imparting the analytical and conceptual tools required for understanding the present day maladies of rural people particularly in the context of groups and communities belonging to the oppressed and marginalized sections of society.

Post-Graduate degree in rural management

The department has already started Course on M.A. in Rural Management for the last one year. The department is already affiliated to the Utkal University of Culture, which will confer the Masters Degree.
