Department Of Integrated Community Health Care

Rationale

Parliament of India, Following the Alma-Ata Declaration had adopted the National Health Policy of Health for All by 2000 AD. The policy among others laid emphasis on preventive and promotive aspects of health and required a massive health education movement for a self-reliant health care system in the voluntary sector.

Keeping with its own tradition of social and community work, NISWASS has embarked upon a sustainable health care programme in the State exclusively intended for the indigenous people.

The Department of Integrated Community Health will not only teach students for academic reasons, but also learn from the people what they really need in relation to their health problems. The common mans problem as a whole has to be brought to the experts of the college and the college laboratory for solving.

Training of Community Health Workers

Following the research and before embarking upon the project, we carried out a training programme for 40 female Grass-root Health Volunteers from 103 villages. They were trained for a duration of six months. 100 Grass Root Social Workers were trained and were entrusted with a job chart that consisted, of among others, creating health awareness, village sanitation and various other socially relevant programmes.

Training Programme on Reproductive Health

A five-days training programme on 'Reproductive Health' was organised in the Institute for the final year students of M.A. in Social Work. This training programme was organised in collaboration with Pathfinder International, New Delhi.

Training of Village Health Workers

The Institute has launched a project for training of Village Health Workers in Daringbadi block of Kondhmal district. A training complex has been constructed for the purpose, and the existing medical staffs have been implementing the programme in the existing facility.
